VIRUS WARNING

Think most people have heard about this by now but just in case: there's a nice new virus doing the rounds - there is a description involving lots of technical gubbins like "worm" and "open ports" which if I try to remember I will get horribly hirribly wrong, but luckily it can be found in a far more coherent form here

In particular it exploits a weakness in Windows XP and NT. A patch is available and a link to it can be found here

I refer you to my previous warning about my abilities to communicate technical things in the appropriate terms... I now don't even bother to try but just point people towards the approprizte info so they can pick out for themselves the bits that are important ;-)

To be fair, the guy who passed on the info did say it would affect other Windows systems, but as the patch he linked to was the XP one I thought it was better just to limit my post to match my very limited knowledge rather than send people off on wild goose chases...

Yeah, I think the best place may be pointing people at the MS website. Covers all cases then.

ahem.. speaking with inteligence inside the microsoft camp... the developers didnt know it was going to happen, the bosses did as did the "watchers" but not the developers..comunication inside micro$oft is not a strong point
