Had a wonderful weekend with much fun and silliness and lovely people - a combination of Wendyhouse 5th birthday party and having Ellie, Alan and June to stay for the weekend. Good points were the four-in-a-bed Grand Prix romp (in which my wife proclaimed herself to be Zeus and suckled a donkey) and seeing people such as Dawn and Fleur and Patrick and Vix and lots and lots of other people (cos if I start naming names someone will be left out and forgotten) again (and it turns out I DID see Blouse in Whitby with the lady who is now Mrs Blouse) and a delicious Chinese Meal (BIG THANK YOUS AGAIN) and the simultaneous celebration of at least 8 birthdays

Slight downside was the place being stupidly packed out which resulted in various peoples feeling wibbly (including Kris who ended up having to go home early which was sad but his monkey rocked) Also had two cases of having complete strangers knowing no-one foistered on me this weekend which I never mind too much cos I know what it's like when you know noone but on the Saturday night really wanted to be up and doing stuff rather than sat there, and on the Sunday just wanted to sit and stare vaguely at the dancefloor and not have to try to make conversation. And ate way too much on Sunday and ended up feeling like my tummy would explode at the slightest hint of a misplaced hiccup.

Once again Wendyhouse seemed over way too quickly and I ended up feeling a bit like a pinball bouncing from one group of people to another without ever catching my breath - which in one way is a wonderful thing but meant that I ended up always seeming to be rushing away from people and once again I never got to dance. Next time I think I shall spend the first half hour deliberately tracking down everyone I know and shouting "hello" at them so I can wander off and have some ME time... preferably with something random, cute and male.

Went into my (soon to be) place of work today to have a look around and was hugely presently surprised. The first thing my going-to-be-boss said to me was "You're a Kerrang girl too, aren't you? I could tell..." It turns out that she and the girl who will be sitting the other side of me are both big metal\rock\punk\alternative music lovers and spend half their time gossiping about the latest videos on Kerrang TV. Had a lovely informal chat type thing that lasted a few hours but seemed like minutes and the job sounds better by the second... I'd though from what she said that Debbie (new boss lasy) would turn out to be a hopelessly disorganised person but in fact she is fairly organised, she just doesn't have time to be as she was doing the work of 3 people by herself until now. So the records and databases I'll be working with aren't a total mess, they're just badly in need of updating and need someone to keep an eye on them and keep everything ticking over. And while the bulk of it is admin, she says she wants me to have some more responsibilities and take over running some things as I see fit. I also got a lot of background about what LQA ~is~ and what it does and the history and where it fits in locally and nationally and all kinds of useful stuff like that... not to mention learning where the toilets and kitchen were... we get FREE COFFEE! Woooo!

I'm also going to be granted full internet access >:-) as I'll need info from some specialist sites online (I plan to be good but it's nice to know it's there) and the chance to work on the new website and possibly newsletters, leaflets and all other kinds of graphic-y stuff... she said that right now they use an external design company but that she'll have to look into having me do that stuff as well. Even better, sh pointed out that once word gets around that I do design stuff, I may well get other people from other departments or some of the creches and day care centres that we deal with coming to me and asking to do stuff, and she went on to say "Of course, you shall have to make sure that you charge them because after all, it's your business, don't let them take advantage of you" So in other words I get to solicit for freelance work while at part time work with my bosses blessing! And she understands exactly how hard it is to try to start up your own enterprise as that's what her hubby is doing at the minute.

She also said that in spite of the fact it's supposed to be term time only, if I wanted to come in for a few hours a week during holiday time to top up my earnings she'd be quite happy with that, and she loved the idea that I should adjust my hours to come in when I was most needed and said "and of course if you need to shuffle hours so you can go away for a couple of days (say to Barcelona) then that's fine" :-) And I have a desk and a phone and a brand new computer all set up and waiting for me and even a scanner and apparently the photocopiers work like a dream! And I found that I can cut straight across there by car in about 10 - 15 minutes even at 9 in the morning without having to go anywhere near the town centre or the ring road and that the main carpark is just by the door to my building. And there's a vast 24 hour tesco practically next door so I can call in there So all in all after all my reservations it sounds like it's something like the perfect job... just got to wait for the police backround checks (there's a couple of onsite daycare centres so they have to do background checks) and I'm off :-)

And to make things even better, two minutes after I got back someone turned up out of the blue to fix the cooker. And I think I have finally finished the staionery for Gemyis AND have made a last minute deign improvement that not only makes the stuff look better but will make it far far easier to make any changes in futures. So that project is now 90% complete and I can start out on Dead Tech stuff and some illustrations (I think I shall start with some dragons and get back into the Dead Dave stuff) and start to get my website together for my own company... I think I have about 4 weeks till the council job starts so I plan to make the most of them.

Not forgetting Barcelona... think I shall try to book a flight for the first week in June, as that should give me enough time to do a little background research into both the place and tips on travel writing.

And shall watch the WWE pay-per-iew tonight which we taped last night and it looks like there may be fresh new boyflesh to drool over >:-)

And the house is closer to being sorted out and tidy than ever and I am determined to get it finished this week although I have a sneaking suspicion that I need more bookcases.

I'm happy today.

was fab to see you as always!

I've included "money for anna" in my list of costings for the start up money people (although I didn't call it that on the formal thing, it's "money for outside help with graphic and website design") in the must have column, so all being well, I shall be able to pay and things...
lots of love
