Well, I've now taken Patrick's good example, got my arse in gear and finally got around to registering curvedspaces.co.uk... Now got to spend the next week running round getting various sorts of business advice and get the company formally registered. I'm going to be a company director at the age of 26! Woohoo!

Also now finished all the logo designs and stationery for the project I was working on - just got a couple of flash pieces (which i'm determined to do cos I need to re-introduce myself to Mr Flash) and the bid serious flash showcase piece to be finished by Kris, then all we have to do (or possibly I have to do depending on how sick of the whole thing he is by that point) is put a few basic webpage outlines together (the guy who owns the company is a coder so he'll probably do the real work for that, he just doesn't do the visual design stuff) So our first semi-professional collective project is almost complete! Next I'm aiming for RJ's illustrations while I'm on a role, and possibly putting together a similar logo etc package for Curved Spaces itself *bounce*

On other job related news, got another interview for another council admin thing - that's now two interviews from two applications! Not actually too sure about this one now... partly cos it's in the childcare and education section and may involve taking an interest in children *shudder*, partly cos it's based out of town instead of in the city centre, partly cos it's just a temporary position and mainly because it's only during term time (I applied for it before I has my brilliant interview and feedback from the other post... had I known how encouraging that was going to be would have been slightly more choosey) What's more I just put in an applivation for a position that while it's another basic admin post also involves creating training leaflets and other materials on desktop publishing programs which would be perfect AND it's right in the city centre. The interview I have isn't until 9th may, so hoping I might hear back one way or another about this job before then...

And in spite of vast amounts of festive overdrinking and eating (and celebrating getting all the way through lent without breaking my chocolate fast by scoffing a huge Easter Bunny) have put no weight on :-)

you may very well have another comsion for things and stuff off me too, shall see how things go... I've done myself a very basic logo which I need for the labels of the clothes themselves, but a fancier one for websites despatch notes and things would be usefull (as would the letter heads despatch notes etc) so you may well have job number four from a new upstart in north wales (more scary is that I should be able to pay properly, depending on the outcome of some meetings I'm having in the next few weeks, might be usefull if you send me some sort of price list if you've got as far as thinking about those sorts of things)
lots of love

I have a vague idea of prices but I'm planning this weel to go see a friend of my dad's who's head of quite a big marketing and design company based in Leeds - I've been to him for advice before and he's always said that he had lots of help when he first started out and so nowadays he's happy to pass that on... so I'm going to ask his advice on pricing and estimations and stuff (and general freelancing stuff as well)

If you've already got a basic logo and just want it sharpening and livening up and adapting then that should all be fairly simple :-)

Wow. All these people starting their own companies. I'm begining to feel a little left out. What the hell does curvedspaces produce anyway, the entry is a little unclear on that.

General design company... covers web design, print stuff, illustrations, photography, animations, whatever. It's really just me doing what I do now, it'll just make it a lot easier to arrange freelance jobs if I actually have a company to go through.

Not qite as impressive as I thought because I've found out that I don't actually have to register as a company, I can just be a lone trader. Which is far less hassle and involves no paperwork but also doesn't sound as impressive *sigh* I'm still going to sort out official business plans and stuff like this this week though.

Thats what I'm doing too, if you pay £2 a week it covers all your national insurance and things too apparently...
lots of love

Not yet sure how that's going to work as I'm going to be working part time as well... I think a trip to the tax office may be in order as well...
