So that was one of the best and the worst Whitbys ever. Luckily the bad stuff came at the end (and doesn't belong on Livejournal) so the weekend was mostly win. Highlights include:
So that's Whitby left with a stake through its heart. What's next?
- The boss being away, and everyone at work conspiring to get me out of the office as early as possible.
- The drive over, which although it included more cars than normal also included following a rally car for most of the way, so I could match their braking patterns exactly and go as fast over the tops as possible.
- Vix and I writing our own 100 Rules of Whitby, with a few borrowed, begged and stolen from elsewhere. Many of these rules were 'Do not die'. (Others included 'Try not to be on fire', 'Always be able to fit a bottle of vodka down your corset', 'Bunny ears go with everything' and 'Do not mix sambuca and superglue'.
- Discovering that the cottage contained glass egg cups in the shape of chickens. Which of course we had to fill with pink sambuca. Because what else would you do with glass egg cup chickens? (There were four of them. This meant we had to include margarita shots as well, or else two would have felt left out.)
- Bar 7 on Friday night. Which was as as awesome as usual. Possibly more so.
- Handbag meercat-in-a-feather-boa.
- Being completely pure sweet and innocent in spite of the horns.
- Scaring people by drinking flatliners. (Apparently it's not so much the drinking as the not flinching afterwards.)
- Scarring people by feeding them 666 shots (sambuca and absinthe). (Yummy!)
- Pink sambuca for breakfast every day. (Hence Rule one being 'Do not die'.)
- No hangovers.
- Introducing people to Cletus the turtle and his magical powers. (Everything he sits on becomes turtles all the way down. Sort of like strange matter with fins.)
- Vix and I finally achieving the 12 Pubs of Whitby in one afternoon. (Hence Rule nine being 'Do not die'.)
- Turning that into the 14 Pubs of Whitby, and adding the rule of a different drink in each pub. Occasionally 'different drink' meant 'several different shots and cocktails all at the same time'. (Hence Rules nineteen through twenty-six being 'Do not die'.)
- Managing to talk to all kinds of new and exciting people on the way, including goths, locals and goth-watchers.
- Walking into Bar 7 (which confusingly was Pub 10) and being greeted by a cry of 'Holy shit, it's the Flatliner Queen!' Apparently, they remember me...
- Breaking Rule 13 ('Do not drink with the football team on Saturday night'). Because you have to break at least one rule, and Rule 13 is a good one to break. Better then Rule 74 ('Do not die'). Or Rule 75 ('No, really, don't').
- Getting to include the Little Angel in the 14 Pubs in spite of it being closed early due to being all sold out of booze (Thanks Tim!).
- Ridiculous amounts of giggling.
- Playing Bouncers at the Resolution and being offered the job.
- Rule 99: Emergency pizza.
- Taking the purple bubble-blowing Dracula head to the football, and filling the entire stadium with bubbles.
- Purple football scarves.
- Rewriting the rules of football so that the Goths won 19-4. (We decided to use cricket rules, so every time the ball got booted out of the stadium we awarded us a six, and we also deducted a point from the Gazette and gave it to Real Gothique for being mean.)
- Filling the Little Angel with bubbles.
- The football team pulling a Marcus and managing to empty the entire pub by putting a ton of cheesy classic rock on the jukebox \m/
- Filling Bar 7 with bubbles.
- Introducing Vix and Fuzzy to flatliners. (I had a reputation to maintain...)
- Actually being sensible and stopping drinking for the evening so as not to die on the way home the next morning.
- Corrupting people in spite of being completely pure sweet and innocent.
- Not quite filling Laughtons with bubbles (Dracula was getting tired).
- Duelling Locomotions.
- Vix being absolutely wonderful at the end of the night.
- Not breaking Rule 100 ('DO NOT DIE' in capital letters) even on the drive home.
