Day 07. A song that reminds you of a certain event.
Philip Oakey/Giorgio Moroder - Electric Dreams

Whitby. Of course. Laughtons. Of course. Dancing with Vix. Of course. Which ~is~ Whitby. (Well, that and sambuca for breakfast.)

(I was actually vaguely relieved that the death of Laughtons coincided with me having a buggered ankle. Or vice versa. Because had I been at the ~other~ 80's night and able to dance I would have been heartbroken. And had I actually been in Laughtons I ~would~ have danced and would now be permanently crippled...)

Day 08. A song that you know all the words to.
Leonard Cohen - Master song
Lyrics have always been just as important to me as the music itself. And when my Dad made me listen to Leonard Cohen ('You ~will~ like this.') it was the words that captivated me. This song is still one of my all time favourites. It's also one of the reasons I can't understand why people think of him as dour and miserable - he has a wonderfully bitter and twisted sense of humour, which runs right through this song. I'm not sure I could stand up and recite the lyrics. But the words... the words I know off by heart.

(Also quite a sweet piece of family history. Looking through all the old albums in the attic, it was clear that my parents had quite disparate music tastes. Dad had all the weirder, heavier experimental stuff, Mum had the pop and disco, and they met in the middle with a matching set of Beatles albums. But there were also two copies of 'Songs of Leonard Cohen', because Mum bought one when they first met and she was trying to impress Dad. To this day, she can still recite Suzanne perfectly.)

Second physio appointment today, and medical opinion is that ankle is definitely on the mend. Already got greater range of movement than last time, with less pain when doing the exercises. Apparently I am showing excellent improvement. I feel I should get a gold star or something, but a working ankle will do. Was also reassuring to find out that the aches and twinges I am still getting are perfectly normal for this type of injury.

Still a long way from fixed - I've moved onto the next stage of exercises, and there were some that still hurt too much. And when the physio gave me the exercise sheet at the end he said 'not that one - you can't do that'. Which is not a phrase that's usually in my vocabulary but looks like I still need to be patient and well behaved a bit longer.

Oh, and apparently my range of movement has increased in my good ankle as well. See, by the end of this I will have the strongest, most flexible ankles in the world!

(It does help that my physio is an extremely hot young Asian medical student who spent half the session feeling my calves to make sure I was tensing the muscles right. And remembered my name. AND I remembered to shave my legs this time, and that didn't even jinx things and land me with a different doctor. In your face, Murphy!)

In job news, finally got introductory letter written and sent out to a bunch of recruitment agencies, with more lined up. Hopefully this will be more successful than just sending off random applications. Am obviously keeping everything crossed (including the ankles, which is one of the exercises).

And yes, generally life is good :-)
