So, once again, I've been stuck late in the office. But this time I was off the clock and working on my portfolio. And it seems to have worked :-) Only got a handful of pages completed so far, but the layout's right, the image selection is getting easier, and the words are flowing. Still got at least another twenty pages to complete (and then the web and print versions to build) but it feels like a huge weight has lifted. Not totally rubbish after all! Hooray!
Turns out I work best at work. Who'd a thunk it?
Funny how a room can affect your brain. In my head, my office (known in a former life as the dining room) is my design studio - it always was during my freelance days, and the set up is unchanged. But it only now occurs to me: over the past couple of years I've barely done any artwork in there. It's now very much my writing room. Which may explain why I end up rewriting CVs over and over again in there, but freeze up when it comes to arranging words and picture on a page. Which has been really frustrating, because, you know, that's my fucking job. Whereas at work, well, that's my job. It's just automatic.
Of course, the fact that Facebook is blocked at work outside of lunch hours may have some very slight effect too ;-)
Oh, and I have a private illustration commission, first one in ages. Trying to work out if this counts as 'Sell a piece of art' from my list for 2011. (In theory it does, as it will involve money changing hands, but I had in mind more of a classic create-the-art-first-then-cold-sell-it scenario, rather than a commission.) Just need to get snowboarding lesson booked, then that's definitely one thing underway...
Also attempting to organise something that is the epitome of herding cats. Unfortunately I think I may actually be doing the most meowing. Whoops!
