Dilema

Am trying to decide whether to invest in a graphics tablet, optical mouse, or both. (Graphics tablet will probably be far more useful in the long run, but has a learning curve attached, and I've projects that I need to get done this week)

Anyone got any advice (such as how long it's taken you to working with a graphics tablet?) Or any recommendations as to what to look for\avoid in either? (I've had someone recommend a budget A5 tablet but can't remember the name right now - can't afford to spend £100's until I complete a few more commissions)
