So far on Livejournal today there have been four - count them - four posts by people I know. And one of them was a goodbye-cruel-LJ-blogging-elsewhere-from-now-on post. And I can kind of understand why - posting these days is a bit like firing a signal flare over a parched and barren landscape.

Now, for purely selfish reasons (those being that I don't have enough people reading me to support a blog of my own outside of something like LJ, and that I can't get Facebook at work) I'm not quite ready to give up on this place quite yet. And I'm sure there must be a few more people out there who post interesting ramblings on a fairly regular basis. And other people must know them. So... any recommendations? People who are still writing stuff I can follow, stalk or befriend? I'm LJ-trained and don't bite.

Also, what happened with Dreamwidth? Are people with accounts there actually using them? (I stomped my feet and shouted until I got one then promptly forgot about it.) And if so, who are you?

I would add some actual content to this but my lunch is nearly over / over / finished 10 minutes ago (people have been playing silly buggers with the clock again) so I will just flutter my lashes beseechingly or pout like a spoilt two-year-old (whichever works best) and hope there's still some life left in LJ-land.

I'd love to post more on here, but I have very little of interest to write about that isn't self indulgent whinging!

It is sad that things have got so quiet on LJ now, facebook and twitter just aren't the same.

But self-indulgent whinging is the foundation of Livejournal!

Maybe that's what went wrong...

Anyway, if anybody finds me interesting stalkees, I'll share them with you!

The number of posts may have gone down, but all the pointless memes have vanished in the direction of facebook. Most of the actual content is still here it's just that there's less filler. I don't have anything I want to talk about to people right now (although I'm sure I could bore people senseless with all my housing based issues or write yet another post about not feeling very well... I might do that actually!). Mostly what I want to talk about is sandwiches or possibly biscuits. I'm also in the mood to make people compilation CDs, but I doubt anyone would be grateful given my current taste in music!
lots of love

Go on - write a post about sandwiches... the greatest sandwich in the world!

(Or biscuits. Either way.)

I shall... maybe... I've added some self indulgent emo whining for the time being...

see my friend's list is littered with posts as usual... now if you'd said 'interesting' well that might be a different kettle of fish...

There's still a bunch of stuff, but it's all selling posts, feeds or DragonCon stuff... not so much of the real people.

So, do you have any suggestions for new people I can stalk a little bit? Or even ones I know and that I really should already have added? Go on, recommend someone... I won't tell them it was you that sent me ;-)

I'll put in a nice word for [livejournal.com profile] bradhicks-- writes political essays (not always right, generally interesting) with research behind them, has a pretty good commenting community.

And [livejournal.com profile] ozarque (Suzette Haden Elgin)-- writes sf, sf poetry, about language and courtesy, and occasional interesting daily life stuff, has a very good commenting community.

I've just created a "real people" filter, and have had 14 posts from my friends today (including the posts people made in the early hours before going to bed!)

It is a useful filter though... much quicker to read through!

I do read lj, just only update when I have something to say. At the moment although I'm very busy, I'm busy with the same things every day if you see what I mean. I'm trying to post everyso often about Izzys milestones, but I'm sure no-one wants to read about how I washed up while she had a nap, she ate all her lunch and she's had 2 dirty nappies today ;0)

There was a time when that would have been really handy... nowadays I don't have enough real people so I need all the feeds and selling posts I can get ;-) Are there any of your real people I should say hello to?

And I remember Lupe deciding to post only what he had for breakfat and the colour of his socks each day, so I don't see whay you shouldn't post a daily dirty nappy and washing up count!

Oh god, I'd forgotten that!

[livejournal.com profile] forgottenalbums and [livejournal.com profile] bingomcdingo are always entertaining, but with 3 kids he doesn't have time to update very often!

Oh, you would probably like the Eternal Magpie feed too.

I can't see anyone else who you know and who isn't mostly frieds only, but you're welcome to look at my friends page if you like.

[personal profile] nalsa, especially if you like pretty pictures.
His cookery blogging will make you want to eat, though!
He doesn't mind newbies as long as they say where they came from, I think there's something about it on his profile.

(oh, and I do read what you write and like it, I'm just crap with the comments! Your NIN blog was great to read, that line about them being like filthy one night stands. Really made me smile and go 'kinda yeah...'!

Oooh, definitely looks interesting - have asked him nicely if I may add him. Thank you :-)

And I know exactly what you mean - I spent months reading every single thing on my friends lists but never commenting on any of it, mostly because of lack of time but also partly because now, ever since I started whinging when people don't reply to my posts ;-)

(And thank you - that NIN review was actually born on twitter. I don't like just automatically cross-posting everything from twitter as it seems wrong - that's more of a silly stream of consciousness place than livejournal which os a bit more proper journal writing - but I thought people might like those ones so I'm very glad you did :-) )

It has gone awfully quiet hasn't it?

I did get dreamwidth but haven't posted anything there yet either - I miss the long mad at tangent meeting new people online type conversations I used to have.

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks so - was starting to worry that maybe I just had no friends ;-)

I'm tempted to do a sort of LJ-social-mingle post - kind of a 'comment here if you'd like some more LJ people to read' and then other people can reply to your comment and say hello. But I fear that could lead to no replies or - at the other end of the scale - drama. If drama still exits on LJ...
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 09:08 pm (UTC)
Hmmn. I generally worry about posting pointless stuff too often and try and limit myself to a post ever few days. Otherwise I could just go on and on and on.. **laughs**
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 09:56 pm (UTC)
I a resigned to the fact that I will always rambke on regardless - I just try to make sure I don't ramble on about the same thing (which os usually either writing or being busy at work) too many days in a row! And besides, even if I do people can just scroll past ;-)

Despite many people trying to get me to do facebook, I prefer LJ, however i wish it was a bit quicker to update, i'm sure you can probably do something shiny where you text posts in but i've not looked into it

i am still here though and probably will be when everyones run off!
